Ghana and Accra Hearts of Oak striker, Mahatma Otoo, who has got his debut call up to the Ghana national team, has expressed his appreciation and believes he can deliver.
Coach James Kwesi Appiah named the youngster alongside three other debutants. On-loan Arsenal player at Fulham Emmanuel Frimpong, Greuther Furth’s Baba Abdul Rahman and Hearts of Oak attacker Mahatma Otoo.
Mahatma has represented Ghana at the national U-17 and U-20 levels and was captain of the national U-23 team that won the historic All Africa Games gold medal in Maputo two years ago.
Mahatma believes that his hard work at club level has finally paid off.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to the technical team and the head coach as well, for giving me this opportunity,” he said in an interview with Joy FM.
“I’ve played for a couple of Junior National teams. It’s true, it’s a systematic thing in Ghana and I think those who made that arrangement have done a yeoman’s job.
“Because when you go through the systematic process and you get to the Black Stars, everybody looks up to you and can deliver. You’ve got the exposure from the junior national teams and you can as well deliver on any given day.
“So I thank them for giving me this call up. I’ve been trying my possible best at my club level to maintain that form for some time. It’s not been easy. And I think they’ve realised my potential and they think now is the best time to try me, against Sudan.”
