Not in my books: Berekum Chelsea coach rubbishes match-fixing claims in 3-2 defeat to Hearts

Head coach of Berekum Chelsea Solomon Odwo has refuted claims that their match day 29 loss to Hearts of Oak was a match of convenience.

The Phobians hosted the Berekum based club in their last home game of the season at the Accra sports stadium and they managed to beat the away side 3-2 on the day.

Interestingly all the five goals in the game were scored within the space of 27 minutes in the second half of the game as the Phobians punished Berekum Chelsea due to their poor defensive display but many are of the believe the match was a fixed game.

But head coach of Berekum Chelsea, Solomon Odwo has rubbished those claims attributing his side’s loss to lack of concentration.

“How will I come from Berekum and play a fixed match; it is obvious everybody witnessed what has happened, they [Hearts] scored three goals and we came back again, I shouted a lot on the touchline but unfortunately my striker got injured and I have to take him out of the game,” Odwo said in a post-match.

He added:  The first half we were very fantastic and before the second half you could see my defense was very solid it all came from the midfield and the lapses from the midfield opened up the defense so it is not that we were not capable of doing the right thing we lacked focus and that caused us the defeat.

“I spoke to my boys[players] prior to the second half but in football as I was talking to my boys Hearts of Oak coach will also be talking to his boys but actually I don’t know what went wrong in the middle you could see the lapses just opened the defense and as a result we conceded three goals.”

Berekum Chelsea will host Wa Allstars in the last match of the season at the Berekum Golden City Park next weekend.
